美国经典影片《往事如烟 / 42年的夏天/ Summer Of' 42》用了很平淡的笔触，描写出了一段少年的往事，片中的男孩、
女人、海水和风光，加上流露出淡淡哀伤的音乐，让人难忘。一位出色的爵士乐作曲家为该片担纲配乐，使影片的配乐自然而然地展现出爵士乐的特色， 旋律舒缓而优美、忧郁而动听，恰好与影片的主题相合拍，为影片的情节作出了完美的陪衬和烘托，因而获得了第44年奥斯卡奥斯卡最佳作曲奖。后被填词，成为众多实力派歌手争相灌录的流行音乐经典。
