Staff Engineer - Cloud Computing (based in VMware Beijing R&D)
Cloud Computing has the potential of revolutionizing the access to and management of compute resources as we know them. VMware is uniquely positioned as the leader in the server virtualization market to play a dominant role in cloud computing. VMware's vCloud effort is the control and management layer of VMware's cloud strategy and is positioned to become the platform that runs public clouds at the industry's top service providers as well as internal or private clouds at the world's largest enterprises. In this role you will be a key player in designing and implementing the vCloud products and change the way computing resources are used worldwide.
This candidate, for the vCloud product, will contribute to the design and implementation of key subsystems within an enterprise-class server management platform. The candidate would actively participate in design and architecture discussions. The applicant would be exposed to the software development process on a team with an excellent track record in delivering software on time and to specifications. Enthusiasm for a fast-paced environment is desired.
Responsibilities:
* Deliver products and features that relate to how VMware can participate in the Cloud computing space
* Participate in all stages of development from proof of concept to production, documentation and support
Requirements:
* Degree in Computer Science or equivalent from a leading university
* 5+ years experience or MSCS or PhD
* Understanding of the cloud space, with prior experience building products and services in this space being highly desirable
* Strong software development and system design skills
* Expert level in one of the following: Flex, Java, J2EE
* Familiarity with creation and consumption of RESTful web services
* Excellent written and verbal communications skills
* Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
* Background in distributed systems, operating systems, protocols, API development
* Strong object oriented design and development patterns a plus
* Proven participation in a well-known open source project is a plus
