first of all, Asp is pretty much MS camp, you are totally throwing yourself in platform lockup. secondly, MS OS is known for security breach, it is just not secure. thirdly, MS is a money sucker, in a long run license/upgrade/patch etc could cost you an arm and a leg. .NET is playing important role in MS future strategy to continue dominating the world, there are some nice features the platform offers, i am not sure why not taking advantages of it.

even i am not a big fan of PHP, but if i have to choose between PHP and ASP.NET, i would go for PHP. it is platform agnostic, also there are a lot of freebies out there. moreover, it is not too hard to find relatively good PHP developers i guess, the cost of hiring PHP developers is probably as same as the cost of hiring ASP/.NET developers, at least pretty close as far as I know.
as i said previously, finding good people is essential, good programmers are the key. in that regard, don't be too cheap when coming to get good people on board, it pays off in the long term. if you do it , do it right at the first place.
